topscale.io is a service by Arum Prior SRL. We restore home footage: digitised tapes, DVDs, old files from camcorders and phones. Not a studio and not an editor with a hundred sliders: you hand over a recording, we hand it back cleaner and sharper.
Recordings on film and tape do not last forever, and after digitising they carry the marks of the medium's age, simple equipment and compression. Such footage was usually shot in difficult conditions: poor light, a camera held by hand, simple optics. Restoration software has existed for years, but it is built for someone who knows what deinterlacing is and why movement comes out combed. Most people with such recordings have no time to learn that.
So the service decides for you. It looks at each file itself — whether the recording is interlaced, whether there is film grain, whether compression left blocks — and turns on only what that file needs. You choose the result, Full HD or 4K. The rest is not your problem.
Dedicated machines with graphics cards on a fixed monthly bill, not capacity rented by the hour for each job. A dull detail, but the price depends on it: we pay for the cards monthly, so a minute costs less than the same work would on hourly rental. It also explains the queue: when the cards are busy, your job waits instead of costing more.
We do not swap or alter faces, do not add people and do not generate frames from scratch. The service sharpens what was actually filmed — if someone was not in the shot, they will not appear. We do not break copy protection on discs. We do not publish your footage and do not pass it to third parties: this is not a sharing platform. A staff member can open it only when the service needs servicing, and every such case is visible to you in the log.
We ask you to upload a family archive to someone else's server, and we understand that is not a small thing. So: you choose the retention period, down to deletion right after processing; files are removed for good, together with the source; our staff can technically open your recording — as in any service that processes it — and such cases are written into a log you can see in your account. We do not claim it is impossible. We show you when it happened.
